Concentration As A Way To Connect To The Present

Concentration as a way to connect to the present

We are not used to being present in the present. In the majority of cases, our body is present but our mind is not. We have become accustomed to distraction, multitasking and developing partial attention which results in total disconnection with our interior. Practicing concentration can help us solve this problem.

Concentration is a mental state that helps us focus all of our attention on what we do and want. On the other hand, it works like a muscle: the more we exercise it, the more results we get.

According to Stephan Bodian, who was trained for a decade as a Zen Buddhist monk and graduated in psychotherapy,  the key to mental peace is not in circumstances but in how we respond to them. So when we focus some form of energy, even mental energy, we gain unlimited power.

The importance of concentration

If we are to triumph in any area of life, we must cultivate our focus on one aspect or goal. Determined and focused people tend to work harder and get things done faster. They normally have better paid jobs and have more dense networks of friends.

All work should be done with concentration. According to Ian Fleming, if a person fails at the important things, it is because they are neither interested nor focused. The skills appear, the tools form themselves.

Concentration is also important for feeling well  and not plunging into states of fear and anxiety. Thoughts come and go like clouds in a windy sky,  knowing how to focus should be our anchor. It is where the water reaches its greatest depth that it is calmer.

In fact,  from a state of inner calm man has been able to discover and form tranquil environments. The more tranquility you feel, the more success, influence and power you will have. Mental peace is one of the greatest jewels of wisdom.

Concentration helps us to be present

Training our concentration helps us focus all of our energy. When focus permeates the mind and body, we are able to put our fears and concerns aside. In this way, our performance improves because we focus on the present, the here and now, and we feel better.

Creativity is also fostered when we focus. Since our mind is free from outside noise, it is easier for us to think about what we want to develop and what we want to be inspired by.

In addition,  thanks to this capacity, we also save time. There is nothing like doing something with a thousand problems in mind and doing something with your mind totally focused on the task. In the first case we waste more time while in the second we get the most out of it.

As we see,  concentration brings us a connection with the present and, ultimately, an invitation to experience a more fulfilled life. Its practice prevents us from getting lost in what is happening around us. But it is important to take into account another point: it is not a cure and it will not change our life overnight.

The practice of concentration is a process, an engagement with life and with ourselves. Its goal is not to change what we experience and achieve but to change the way we deal with it. Here is the key.
